The FSSPX premieres on YouTube "Salus animarum", its documentary on the Écône episcopal consecrations

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) has made available this Sunday, November 1, on its official YouTube channel, the documentary “Salus animarum,” dedicated to the episcopal consecrations celebrated on July 1, 2026, in Écône (Switzerland). According to the announcement published by the Fraternity itself on October 20 on its official website, the film features subtitles in several languages that viewers can activate from the player settings.

The film, subtitled “Consecrations for Souls,” was directed by Siebe Van Gaever in collaboration with the General House of the Fraternity. According to the FSSPX presentation, it gathers exclusive testimonies and unpublished images about the reasons for the consecrations, their preparations, the development of the ceremony, and the reactions it provoked. The Fraternity recalls that on that day four new bishops were consecrated before some 17,000 faithful, thirty-eight years after the consecrations of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in 1988.

“The salvation of souls is the supreme law”

The title of the documentary refers to the principle with which the FSSPX justifies its decision. According to its announcement, despite the crisis the Church has been going through for decades, the film seeks to recall that the Fraternity wishes to remain faithful to a principle: “the salvation of souls is the supreme law.” The presentation text does not identify the people interviewed nor preview excerpts of their statements.

The FSSPX maintains that the consecrations were carried out without authorization from the Holy See, due to exceptional circumstances. The consecrators were Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta, assisted by Bishop Bernard Fellay, and the new bishops are Pascal Schreiber, Michael Goldade, Michel Poinsinet de Sivry, and Marc Hanappier, according to the information released by the Fraternity.

The appeal against the excommunications remains open

The release of the documentary comes as the Fraternity continues its appeal in Rome against the excommunications declared after the consecrations. As InfoVaticana reported, the FSSPX confirmed that it continues to appeal in Rome against the Écône excommunications and will maintain discretion regarding the process.

The film can already be viewed on the Fraternity’s official YouTube channel, where viewers must select the subtitle language using the gear icon and the corresponding option.
