First Reading
Hebrews 5, 7-9
Brothers and sisters: During his mortal life, Christ offered prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who could deliver him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was the Son, he learned obedience through suffering, and once he reached perfection, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.
Gospel
John 19, 25-27
At that time, standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother: «Woman, here is your son.» Then he said to the disciple: «Here is your mother.» And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
