The Torreciudad shrine (Huesca) will host the next September 12 the 34th Marian Family Day, one of the main family pilgrimages held each year at this center of Marian devotion and which brings together thousands of faithful from different parts of Spain.
The day will be presided over by Msgr. Alejandro Arellano, dean of the Roman Rota Tribunal and pontifical delegate for Torreciudad. The program will include the celebration of Holy Mass, the traditional family offering, the offering of children to the Virgin, the recitation of the Rosary and other acts of prayer and fellowship.
A day dedicated to families
The shrine has announced that they are already finalizing the preparations for this new edition, both on the organizational and spiritual levels.
“At Torreciudad we have already begun preparations for the day with great enthusiasm; some material work has even begun. But above all, we pay attention to spiritual preparation, asking in faith that many pilgrims may participate and experience a joyful encounter with the Mother of God,” the shrine states.
Among this year’s guests is the couple formed by Quique Mira and María Lorenzo, founders of the Cana Project and Aute, who will offer a dialogue entitled “Let’s talk about love… for real”, focused on courtship, marriage and family.
The presence of Alejandro Arellano
The Eucharist will be presided over by Msgr. Alejandro Arellano, who since October 2024 has served as delegate of the Holy See for Torreciudad, a position to which he was appointed by Pope Francis in order to accompany the process opened regarding the legal, canonical and pastoral situation of the shrine. An issue that remains pending a definitive resolution by the Holy See.
A shrine with national and international projection
Inaugurated in 1975 and promoted by St. Josemaría Escrivá, Torreciudad celebrated last year the fiftieth anniversary of its opening for worship. The shrine was built thanks to donations promoted by members, cooperators and friends of Opus Dei, as well as by numerous benefactors from different countries.
The image of Our Lady of Torreciudad, venerated since ancient times in the original hermitage, continues to be the center of intense pastoral and pilgrimage activity that attracts thousands of faithful each year.
