Mexican Episcopal Conference congratulates Mexican mothers and entrusts them to the Virgin of Guadalupe

In a message disseminated on the occasion of Mother’s Day, the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) recognized the irreplaceable role of the country’s mothers and invited them to look to Mary of Nazareth as a model and companion in their vocation. The auxiliary bishop of Monterrey and general secretary of the CEM, Héctor Mario Pérez Villarreal, was the voice of the pronouncement, available in video on the institution’s official channel.

“Mary of Nazareth reveals the deepest meaning of motherhood. To give life, to trust, to educate so that the world knows love. Through our mother we learn to love, to trust, to rise up”, affirmed the prelate. For the Mexican bishops, every mother who educates not only accompanies her child, but “is sowing the future of humanity”. That silent labor, carried out from the everyday, transforms history and participates in God’s work.

The message highlights the qualities that define Mexican mothers, tenderness and strength combined, capacity to love unconditionally, to sustain in the midst of adversity and to educate with hope. “That is why when a mother educates, she not only accompanies her child, she is sowing the future of humanity”, emphasized Pérez Villarreal. These women, he explained, are the first to teach love, trust, and resilience. Their daily dedication, often invisible, is the foundation of families and of society as a whole.

However, the CEM did not ignore the painful realities faced by thousands of mothers in Mexico. The text openly recognizes “uncertainties, fatigue, worries for their children, for their family, for tomorrow”. In a special way, the bishops mentioned those who “suffer the disappearance of their children”, an open wound in the country where thousands of families seek answers in the face of violence and insecurity. It also remembered the mothers who are no longer physically present, but whose presence remains alive in the memory and affection of their loved ones.

Facing these difficulties, the message proposes a concrete reference, the Virgin Mary. Quoting Pope Leo XIV, the bishop pointed out that “if your point of reference is Mary, you will be able to face any uncertainty”. It is not about denying the problems, but about walking accompanied by her testimony. “Mary, Mother of Jesus, knows the weight of life, the uncertainty of the future and fidelity in daily life”, he affirmed. In her, mothers find “not only an example, but a real companionship”. The Virgin, he added, leads to Christ, the source of strength to move forward.

The bishops of Mexico raised a special prayer to Mary for all mothers: “for those who continue fighting every day, who accompany with tenderness and strength”. And they entrusted them all to the hands of the Virgin of Guadalupe, patroness of the country: “We place in the hands of our Mother, the Virgin of Guadalupe, all the moms of Mexico so that she covers them with her tenderness, strengthens them in their vocation and accompanies them always with her love”.

The pronouncement concludes with a call to hope: “Because where there is a mother who loves, there is a hope that does not give up and where that hope is cared for, the future begins to heal”.

This message from the CEM arrives on a national celebration day that, since 1922, honors Mexican mothers. In a context marked by economic, social and security challenges, the voice of the bishops seeks to be a spiritual embrace and public recognition to those who, from the small and the silent, build the present and future of Mexico.

Happy Mother’s Day! is the final greeting, but also an invitation to value, accompany and protect those who, with their unwavering love, continue to be the heart of the nation.
