Writing from ignorance

When the shortcomings are so monumental, the article is very badly wounded from its very first words. Writing about an event that is happening again in Asturias and with so much ignorance about the Asturian Church undermines the credibility of the entire text. I haven’t even gotten past the first words, which show an enormous lack of knowledge about the Church of Oviedo.

This is the absurdity: “words spoken by the archbishop emeritus of Oviedo, Mons. Jesús Sanz.” Oviedo has no archbishop emeritus today. That was Gabino Díaz Merchán, who died several years ago. And since his death, Oviedo has had no archbishop emeritus. The person to whom the emeritus title is attributed, “Jesús Sanz,” has absolutely nothing emeritus about him; he is the current residential archbishop of Oviedo. So you can imagine what an article that begins like this is worth.
