It was thought they were just a few immigrants.
So, be on your toes from now on, Monsignor.
I don’t think he’s a bad bishop, but blunders like the collection for the nearly one hundred thousand invaders of Ceuta are enough to avoid any more slip-ups that the devil might exploit.
«Mons. Valdivia clarifies his first statement on the collections
Subsequently, the apostolic administrator of the diocese of Cádiz and Ceuta, Monseñor D. Ramón Valdivia Jiménez, has explained the reason for that first statement before knowing the extent of this crisis, which left quite a few faithful and citizens of Ceuta somewhat surprised.
In an interview with Vatican News, he clarified that on July 30, upon noticing some notably illegal entries, the faithful were asked to allow the collections that are normally dedicated to Cáritas to be used to raise funds for the care of those who arrived. «We could never have calculated that, a few hours later, the arrivals would be a population resembling the natural population of Ceuta,» stated Mons. Valdivia.
Furthermore, regarding the Ceuta population, he added: «The Church has shown its maturity. Now it is up to us to rebuild trust, to encourage those who have suffered fear and anxiety.»
