The ten dioceses of Catalonia join together in a prayer chain for vocations during November

The ten dioceses based in Catalonia are participating this November in a new edition of the Prayer Chain for Vocations, a joint initiative that seeks to mobilize parishes, religious communities, families, and the faithful to pray for priestly, religious, and matrimonial vocations. Under the motto “Leave your nets and follow me,” the call aims to maintain continuous prayer throughout the thirty days of the month.

The initiative, organized by the diocesan delegations for vocational pastoral care, has been presented by the Tarraconense Episcopal Conference, which invites the faithful to rediscover the importance of responding generously to God’s call.

The campaign takes place in a context marked by the difficulties faced by numerous Spanish dioceses in ensuring generational renewal of the clergy. The situation of seminaries and the need to promote new priestly vocations remain among the main challenges of the Church in Spain.

Three days of prayer for each diocese

The chain is organized through a shared calendar that assigns three days of prayer to each of the ten participating dioceses. In this way, throughout November, prayer initiatives will take place in the different ecclesial communities.

Tarragona opened the chain this Sunday, November 1, and will participate again on the 11th and 21st. Girona has been assigned the 2nd, 12th, and 22nd; Lleida, the 3rd, 13th, and 23rd; Solsona, the 4th, 14th, and 24th; and Tortosa, the 5th, 15th, and 25th.

For its part, Urgell will participate on the 6th, 16th, and 26th; Vic, on the 7th, 17th, and 27th; Barcelona, on the 8th, 18th, and 28th; Sant Feliu de Llobregat, on the 9th, 19th, and 29th; and Terrassa will close each cycle with the days of November 10, 20, and 30.

The call expressly includes prayer for vocations to the priesthood, the permanent diaconate, consecrated life, marriage, and lay ministries.

An invitation to pray from parishes and families

The organizers have ensured that participation is not limited to seminaries or religious communities, but reaches all the faithful.

To this end, they propose various ways to join the chain, such as the celebration of Holy Mass, Eucharistic adoration, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, community prayer gatherings, or personal prayer.

Parishes, movements, associations, and families interested can communicate to their respective diocesan delegations for vocational pastoral care the day and time slot in which they commit to pray.

The Tarraconense Episcopal Conference has also made available to participants support material for the 2026 Prayer Chain.

Prayer for vocations in light of the situation of seminaries

The call takes on special relevance in Catalonia, where priestly formation has undergone significant changes in recent years.

The reorganization of the formation of future priests and collaboration among different dioceses highlight the importance of fostering new vocations and accompanying young people who are considering dedicating their lives to the service of the Church.

This scenario also reminds us that vocational promotion does not depend exclusively on seminaries, but begins in families, parishes, and Christian communities, where young people can discover and mature God’s call.

With the motto “Leave your nets and follow me,” inspired by Christ’s call to his first disciples, the Catalan dioceses wish to recall that every vocation is born of an initiative of God and requires a free and generous response.

The November chain thus seeks to strengthen prayer for those discerning their vocation and to remind Christian communities of their responsibility to foster a family, parish, and ecclesial environment in which new vocations can arise and mature.
