First Reading
First reading
Reading from the book of Isaiah
Isaiah 25, 6-10
On that day, the Lord of hosts
will prepare on this mountain
a feast of rich food for all peoples;
a banquet of well-aged wines
and choice meats.
He will remove on this mountain
the veil that covers the face of all peoples,
the shroud that darkens all nations.
He will destroy death forever;
the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces
and remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.
For the Lord has spoken.
On that day it will be said:
«Behold, this is our God;
we have waited for him, that he might save us.
Let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation,
for the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain.»
Second reading
Reading from the letter of the apostle Saint Paul to the Philippians
Philippians 4, 12-14. 19-20
Brothers and sisters: I know what it is to live in poverty and also what it is to have plenty. I am accustomed to everything: to eating well and to going hungry; to abundance and to scarcity. I can do all things through him who gives me strength. Nevertheless, you did well to help me when I was in need.
My God, in his infinite riches, will supply all your needs in abundance, through Christ Jesus. Glory to God our Father, for ever and ever. Amen.
Gospel
Reading from the holy gospel according to Saint Matthew
Matthew 22, 1-10
At that time, Jesus spoke again in parables to the chief priests and the elders of the people, saying: «The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to call those who had been invited, but they refused to come.
He sent other servants again, saying: ‘I have prepared the banquet; I have slaughtered my fattened calves and other animals; everything is ready. Come to the wedding.’ But the invited guests paid no attention. One went off to his field, another to his business, and the rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
Then the king became angry and sent his troops, who killed those murderers and burned their city.
Then he said to his servants: ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the crossroads and invite to the wedding banquet all whom you find.’ The servants went out to the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.»
