Reading from the letter of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians

Galatians 1, 13-24

Brothers and sisters: You have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, when I persecuted the Church of God with great violence, trying to destroy it. You must know that I stood out in Judaism among the young men of my people and of my age, because I surpassed them in zeal for the traditions of my fathers.

But God had chosen me from my mother’s womb, and by his grace he called me. One day he chose to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him among the Gentiles. Immediately, without seeking any human counsel and without even going to Jerusalem to see the apostles who were before me, I went to Arabia and then returned to Damascus. After three years I went to Jerusalem to see Peter, and I stayed with him fifteen days. I did not see any other of the apostles, except James, the Lord’s relative. And God is my witness that I am not lying in what I write to you.

Afterward I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia, so that the Christian communities of Judea did not know me personally. The only thing they had heard about me was: “The one who once persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy,” and they glorified God because of me.

Gospel

Reading from the holy gospel according to Saint Luke

Luke 10, 38-42

At that time, Jesus entered a village, and a woman named Martha received him into her house. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at Jesus’ feet and began to listen to his word. Meanwhile, Martha was busy with many household tasks, until she approached Jesus and said: “Lord, have you not noticed that my sister has left me alone with all the work? Tell her to help me.”

The Lord answered her: “Martha, Martha, many things worry and trouble you, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the better part, and no one will take it away from her.”
