Reading from the first letter of the Apostle Saint Paul to the Corinthians

1 Corinthians 4, 1-5

Brothers and sisters: Let everyone regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Now, what is required of stewards is that they be found faithful. Therefore, it does not concern me in the least that I be judged by you or by any human court; I do not even judge myself. True, my conscience does not reproach me, but neither does that make me innocent. It is the Lord who will judge me. Therefore, do not judge before the time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will manifest the intentions of the heart. Then each one will receive from God the praise he deserves.

Reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Luke

Luke 5, 33-39

At that time, the Pharisees and the scribes asked Jesus: “Why do the disciples of John fast often and pray, just like the disciples of the Pharisees, while yours eat and drink?”

Jesus answered them: “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece from a new garment to patch an old one, for he will ruin the new one, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins, for the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will spill out, and the skins will be ruined. New wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. And no one, after drinking old wine, desires new, for he says, ‘The old is better.’”
