Gospel of the day June 30, 2026 – Matthew 8, 23-27

First Reading

Reading from the prophecy of Amos

Amos 3, 1-8; 4, 11-12

Hear these words
that the Lord addresses to you, people of Israel,
and to the whole people he brought out of Egypt:

“You alone have I chosen
among all the peoples of the earth,
therefore I will punish you more severely
for all your crimes.

Can two walk together unless they agree?
Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey?
Does a young lion growl from its den
if it has caught nothing?
Does a bird fall to the ground without a trap being set?
Does a trap spring up from the ground unless it has caught something?
Is a trumpet blown in a city without the people being alarmed?
Is there any disaster in a city that the Lord has not caused?
Surely the Lord does nothing
without first revealing his plan to his prophets.
The lion has roared—who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken—who will not prophesy?

I destroyed you as I did Sodom and Gomorrah;
you were like a brand snatched from the fire,
yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.

Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel,
and because I will do this to you,
prepare, Israel, to meet your God.”

Gospel

Reading from the holy gospel according to Saint Matthew

Matthew 8, 23-27

At that time, Jesus got into a boat with his disciples. Suddenly a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the waves were covering the boat; but he was asleep. The disciples woke him, saying: “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

He replied: “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up, gave a stern command to the winds and the sea, and a great calm followed. The men were amazed and said: “Who is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”
