Reading from the second book of Kings

2 Kings 2, 1. 6-14

What happened was that when the Lord was going to take Elijah up to the sky in a whirlwind. On that day, Elijah and Elisha had come out of Gilgal. When they came to Jericho, Elijah told Elisha: “Stay here, because the Lord sends me to the Jordan”. Elisha replied: “As the Herr and as your life I swear I will not leave you alone”. They went both together.

Fifty men from the community of the prophets followed them, who, when Elijah and Elisha arrived at the shore of the Jordan, stopped in distant from them. Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and hit the waters with it; these split to one side and the other, and both crossed the river without getting wet.

After crossing, Elijah told Elisha: “Ask me what you want I will do for you, before I take you away from your side”. Elisha replied: “Be the main heir of your spirit”. Elijah told him: “It is difficult what you ask; but if you see me when I take me away from your side, you will obtain it; if not, you will obtain it”.

S continued walking and talking, by a fire chariot, with fire horses, interpose between them, and Elijah went up to the sky in a whirlwind. Elisha saw him going away and cried out: “My father, my father, chariot and charioteer of Israel!”

Already he was看不到 he saw him. Then he tore his garments, collected the cloak that Elijah had fallen, returned and stopped at the edge of the Jordan. He took Elijah’s cloak and hit the waters with it, and did nicht split. Then he said: “WhereWhere is de Lord, the God von Elías?” He hit the waters again and then they split to one side and another, and Elisha passed.
