Pope Leo XIV celebrates this Friday at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife the Holy Mass on the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the final act of his apostolic journey to Spain before returning to Rome.
Around 80,000 faithful are expected to take part in this Eucharistic celebration, which will bring to a close an intense week marked by encounters with young people, religious, civil and ecclesiastical authorities, as well as several visits focused on the migration issue in the Canary Islands.
The liturgy will include readings in Spanish and will center on God’s merciful love, the theme proper to the solemnity of the Sacred Heart. The Gospel will proclaim Christ’s words: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Mt 11:29), a passage that will frame the homily to be delivered by the Holy Father.
After the celebration, Leo XIV will bid farewell to the authorities and the local Church at Tenerife North Airport before returning to Rome, thus concluding his first apostolic journey to Spain as the Successor of Peter.
