Reading from the Acts of the Apostles

Acts 1, 12-14

After Jesus ascended into heaven, the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. When they arrived in the city, they went up to the upper room of the house where they were staying: Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All of them persevered together in prayer, along with Mary, the mother of Jesus, the relatives of Jesus, and some women.

Reading from the First Letter of Peter

1 Peter 4, 13-16

Dear brothers and sisters: Rejoice in sharing now in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed, your joy may be overflowing. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, consider yourselves blessed, because the power and glory of the Spirit of God rests upon you. But let none of you suffer as a criminal, a thief, a wrongdoer, or simply as a meddler. Instead, if you suffer as a Christian, give thanks to God for bearing that name.

Gospel

Conclusion of the holy Gospel according to Saint John

John 21, 20-25

At that time, Jesus said to Peter: «Follow me». Peter, turning around, saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them, the same one who at the supper had leaned on his chest and asked him: ‘Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?’ When he saw him, Peter said to Jesus: «Lord, what about him?» Jesus replied: «If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You, follow me».

For this reason, the rumor began to spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that er would not die, but: ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?’

This is the disciple who testifies to these things and has written them down, and we are certain that his testimony is true. Many other things Jesus did, and I believe that if they were recounted one by one, the books that would be written about them would not fit in the whole world.
