That he was appointed bishop to deal with other matters. Not Basque identity but Catholic identity. A holy, Catholic and apostolic Church but not Basque at all, with the result that that identity will be his concern and his alone, and that of the very few others who have managed to turn one of the most Catholic regions of Spain into a wasteland. And one of the reasons is to replace Catholic identity with Basque identity.
