The Valladolid native García Macías (Pollos 1965) will no longer come as bishop of Cartagena, as some had claimed, since he has just been appointed Secretary of Divine Worship in place of Viola. The latter moves to the position recently left vacant by Cardinal Gambetti as vicar general of the Vatican and archpriest of St. Peter’s. In Divine Worship he was an opponent of the traditional Mass, so his dismissal is good news, although it means that St. Peter’s Basilica will not make things easy for the extraordinary form of the Latin rite.
The prefect of Divine Worship, Arthur Roche, another opponent of the traditional Mass, will turn 77 on March 6, 2027, so his resignation should not be long in coming. When it happens, it will be another piece of good news.
