To extremes that were hard to imagine.
Personally, I believe—and I am not the only one—that with good reason.
He is enthusiastic about Madrid’s response and less so about the Pope, but what has absolutely outraged him was the cardinal archbishop of Madrid. Listen to his intervention today and I am sure very few would have thought he would go to such extremes. A significant number of Madrid Catholics will applaud it. And that cannot be prevented by the Holy Father, no matter how many shows of support he may wish to offer him. And it will only result in discredit for the Pope. I do not think there is a single person who has a very poor opinion of the cardinal archbishop of Madrid who will change it if the Pope makes him the object of his preferences. The normal thing is that they will continue to speak ill of Cobo and extend their criticisms to the pontiff.
And it is absurd for a Pope to insist, without any sense, on increasing the rejections of his person.
Listen to Jiménez Losantos today and you will be astonished—many with notable satisfaction—at how Cobo is portrayed.
