Resignation and Appointment of the Bishop of Honolulu (U.S.A.)
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Honolulu (U.S.A.) presented by His Excellency Monsignor Clarence R. Silva.
The Holy Father has appointed as Bishop of Honolulu (U.S.A.) the Rev. Michael T. Castori, S.J., Member of the Western United States Province of the Society of Jesus, until now Rector of the Arrupe Jesuit Residence in Seattle.
Curriculum Vitae
His Excellency Mons. Michael T. Castori, S.J., was born on October 21, 1960, in Sacramento (California), in the homonymous Diocese. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Languages at Harvard University, a Master’s in Philosophy at Fordham University, and a Master of Divinity at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley.
He was ordained a priest on June 13, 1998, for the Society of Jesus.
He has held the following positions and undertaken further studies: Chaplain to the Tongan communities in California (1996-2024); Prison pastoral care (1997-2005); Assistant Professor and Assistant for University Pastoral Care at Santa Clara University (2008-2013); Doctorate in Near Eastern Religions at the University of California in Berkeley (2008); Parochial Vicar of All Saints Catholic in Hayward (2014-2024); Vicar for the Clergy of the Diocese of Oakland (2021-2024); Rector of the Arrupe Jesuit Residence in Seattle (from 2025).
