Appointment of the Ordinary Military Bishop for Bolivia
The Holy Father has appointed as Ordinary Military Bishop for Bolivia His Excellency Mons. Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia, C.P., until now Titular Bishop of Temuniana, Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of La Paz and Apostolic Administrator of the same Ordinariate.
Curriculum vitae
His Excellency Mons. Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia, C.P., was born on June 7, 1968, in La Paz (Bolivia). He earned a Licentiate in Religious Sciences from the Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo and a Baccalaureate and Licentiate in Theology from the Istituto Superiore di Studi Teologici (ISET) in La Paz.
He entered the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (Passionists) in 1997 and was ordained a priest on June 19, 2004.
He has held the following positions and pursued further studies: Religion teacher in various secondary schools in La Paz (1994-1997); Pastor and Parish Priest of the Parish of Ayo Ayo, Prelature of Coro Coro (2004-2006); Vicar at the Shrine of Santa Gema in Madrid (2007-2010); Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University Comillas in Madrid (2009); Parish Priest and Superior of the Passionist Parish Señor de la Exaltación in Obrajes, La Paz (2011-2022); Professor of Eschatology, Ecclesiology, and Soteriology at the Major Seminary San Jerónimo in La Paz (2012-2019); Episcopal Vicar of the Zona Sur of the Archdiocese of La Paz (2011-2021); Passionist Counselor for Bolivia (2017-2022); Forane Vicar of the Archdiocese of La Paz (2017-2022).
On February 22, 2022, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Temuniana and Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of La Paz, receiving episcopal ordination on May 5 of the same year. He has also held the following positions: Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinariate for Bolivia (since 2022); Delegate of the Bolivian Conference to the Synod of Bishops in Rome (2023-2024); Head and Coordinator of the Vicaria Educativa and the Vicaria de Catequesis y Biblia of the Archdiocese of La Paz (since 2023); Delegate President of the Board of the Center for the Promotion of the Laity (CEPROLAI) (since 2024); Head and Coordinator of Catechesis and Bible of the Evangelization Area of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference (since 2024); President of the Fundación Jubileo of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference (since 2024).
