Appointment of the Coadjutor Archbishop of Bangui (Central African Republic)

The Holy Father has appointed as Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bangui (Central African Republic) the Rev. Fr. Joseph Samedi, S.I., until now Director of the Pope Francis School Complex and Superior of the Society of Jesus in Bangui.

Curriculum vitae

His Excellency Msgr. Joseph Samedi, S.I., was born on December 20, 1971, in Mongoumba, in the Diocese of M’Baiki (Central African Republic). After his novitiate in Bafoussam (Cameroon), he studied Philosophy at the Saint-Pierre Canisius Faculty of Philosophy in Kinshasa, continued his Jesuit formation in Chad, and finally studied Theology in Brussels (Belgium). Subsequently, he obtained a Licentiate in Church History at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on August 6, 2006.

He has held the following positions: Librarian and Vicar at the French-speaking Parish of Bangui (2008-2009); Formator at the National Major Seminary of Saint Mark in Bangui (2009-2018); ad tempus Superior of the Society of Jesus in Bangui and Responsible for the ongoing formation of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Bangui (2011-2018); Director of the Saint-Charles Lwanga College in Sarh, Chad (2018-2024); until now, Director of the Pope Francis School Complex and Superior of the Society of Jesus in Bangui (from 2024).
