Pope Leo XIV will preside on Monday, November 2, at 4:00 p.m., the Mass for the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed at the monumental Verano Cemetery in Rome. The TV2000 network announced that it will broadcast the celebration live on its channel and on its Play2000 platform, followed by an analysis segment on the program «Chiesa» hosted by Gennaro Ferrara.
The event is listed in the calendar of celebrations for November and December published on October 27 by the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff, which InfoVaticana reported at the time. According to that schedule, before the Mass the Pope will pause in prayer before a tomb and lay a floral offering.
Concelebrants and free admission
Concelebrating with the Pontiff will be the Cardinal Vicar of Rome, Baldo Reina, and the Vicegerent of the diocese, Bishop Renato Tarantelli Baccari, along with the parish priest of the Basilica of San Lorenzo Outside the Walls, next to which the cemetery is located. The liturgical service will be provided by seminarians from the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary.
Admission will be free until capacity is reached. The Diocese of Rome has also planned prayers for the deceased in the city’s other cemeteries on November 1 and 2, and has made available to parishes a prayer outline for Eucharistic adoration on the evening of October 31.
A gesture that repeats the one from 2025
Pope Leo XIV already presided over the Mass for the Faithful Departed at the Verano on November 2, 2025, in the afternoon. On that occasion he delivered a homily in which he stated that “charity conquers death”. In doing so, he continued a custom already observed by his predecessors on that day.
The Vatican calendar places the next celebration at St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday, November 5, at 9:00 a.m., with the Mass in suffrage for the cardinals and bishops who died during the past year. The following day, November 6, the Pope’s apostolic journey to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru is scheduled to begin, and it will continue until November 17.
