The Archbishop of Toledo accompanies the families of the train accident: "We are with them and we pray"

The Archbishop of Toledo, Monsignor Francisco Cerro Chaves, has expressed his closeness and solidarity with the families affected by the serious train accident that occurred this Wednesday, October 28, in Urda (Toledo). The prelate has traveled to personally accompany those affected and offer them support in moments of deep pain.

In statements to the media, the archbishop explained that he is trying to help the people affected and remain close to those suffering the consequences of the tragedy.

“We are with them, we pray and they feel our closeness”

Asked about the message that can be offered to families in a situation like this, Monsignor Cerro Chaves highlighted the importance of prayer and personal accompaniment.

“We are with them, we pray and they feel our closeness and our solidarity,” the archbishop affirmed, recalling that the Archdiocese of Toledo has issued a statement especially addressed to the affected families.

The prelate acknowledged the suffering of those waiting for news of their loved ones or who have directly suffered the consequences of the accident. “At this moment they are, like all of us, devastated; much more so, of course, they are, who experience this suffering in their own flesh,” he stated.

The archbishop seeks to remain close to those affected

During his conversation with journalists, Monsignor Cerro Chaves confirmed that he has already been able to speak personally with some of the family members.

“Yes, yes, I have spoken with some of them,” he explained, adding that he continues to look for ways to remain close to the affected people throughout the day.

The archbishop reiterated his willingness to help those in need, especially the families living through the most difficult hours after the accident.

Spanish bishops ask for prayers for the victims

The presence of Monsignor Cerro Chaves alongside those affected comes after the Spanish Episcopal Conference expressed its condolences and asked for prayers for the victims of the train accident in Toledo.

In its statement, the CEE expressed its closeness to the families of the deceased and asked to pray for their eternal rest and for the recovery of the injured.

The bishops also invited Christian communities to entrust all affected persons to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, “Comforter of the afflicted and Queen of peace,” and remembered the emergency teams, healthcare personnel, and those accompanying the victims’ families.
