Reading from the Book of Proverbs

Proverbs 30, 5-9

Every word of God is true.
The Lord is a shield to all who trust in him.
Do not alter his words in any way,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Two things I ask of you, Lord, before I die,
do not deny them to me:
keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but only what I need to live,
lest abundance turn me away from you
and make me forget you;
lest poverty drive me to steal
and lead me to offend you.

Gospel

Reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Luke

Luke 9, 1-6

At that time, Jesus called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. Then he sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

He said to them: «Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor bag, nor food, nor money, nor two tunics. Stay in whatever house you enter until you leave that place. And if any town does not welcome you, leave it and shake the dust from your feet as a testimony against them».

They set out and went from village to village, preaching the Gospel and healing everywhere.
