Reading from the first letter of the Apostle Saint Paul to the Corinthians

1 Corinthians 2, 10-16

Brothers and sisters: The Spirit knows perfectly everything, even the depths of God. Indeed, who knows what is in man, except the spirit of man that is within him? In the same way, no one knows what is in God, except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who proceeds from God, so that we may know the graces that God has granted us. Of these graces we speak, not with words learned from human wisdom, but learned from the Spirit, and with which we express spiritual realities in spiritual terms.

Man, with his intelligence alone, cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God, because for him they are foolishness; he cannot understand them because they are things that can only be understood in the light of the Spirit. But the man enlightened by the Spirit can judge all things correctly, and no one who does not have the Spirit can judge him correctly. Therefore Scripture says: Who has understood the Lord’s way of thinking, so as to be able to instruct him? Well then, we possess the mind of Christ.

Reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Luke

Luke 4, 31-37

At that time, Jesus went to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and on the sabbath he taught the people. They were all astonished at his teaching, because he spoke with authority.

In the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean demon, and he began to cry out loudly: “Leave us alone! Why do you interfere with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know that you are the Holy One of God.”

But Jesus commanded him: “Be silent and come out of that man.” Then the demon threw the man to the ground in the midst of the people and came out of him without harming him. All were amazed and said to one another: “What is there in his word? For he gives orders with authority and power to the unclean spirits, and they come out.” And his fame spread throughout all the places of the region.
