The Concatedral of Santa María de Cáceres hosted on July 22 a concert by the Niños Cantores de París, one of the most renowned children’s choral ensembles in France, which stopped in the city during the tour the choir is carrying out this summer through Morocco and Spain.
Before the performance, the choir members were welcomed at the Seminario Diocesano de Coria-Cáceres, where they shared a day of fellowship before offering the concert in the cathedral temple. According to the diocese, the Concatedral recorded a large public attendance to listen to the repertoire performed by the French ensemble.
More than half a century spreading sacred music
The Niños Cantores de París originated from a Schola founded at the beginning of the 20th century and have been active in their current configuration since 1956. Their mission is to spread the heritage of sacred music and promote, through choral singing, a message of peace.
The ensemble is directed by François Polgár, former director of the Choirs of the Paris Opera and the Radio France Choirs. In recent years, they have performed in various countries across Europe, Asia, and America, and during this summer’s tour they have visited cities in Morocco and Spain such as Marrakech, Casablanca, Tangier, Ronda, Madrid, Cáceres, Sitges, and Tarragona.
The program performed in Cáceres included works from the sacred repertoire by composers such as Gabriel Fauré, Henry Purcell, and Camille Saint-Saëns, with piano accompaniment by Jean-Christophe Polgár, a former member of the choir itself.
After the recital, the diocese thanked the French ensemble for their visit and highlighted the day shared both at the seminary and at the Concatedral of Santa María, where the choir offered a concert that brought together numerous faithful and lovers of choral music.
