A Catholic priest from Ontario took part in his brother’s homosexual “wedding,” publicly described it as “epic” and “amazing,” and served as master of ceremonies during the reception.
He is Father Rico Passero, parish priest of St. Joseph’s Church in Grimsby, belonging to the Canadian diocese of St. Catharines. In a post made on Facebook on July 5, the priest described the union between his brother Anthony Passero and Aldair Martínez García as an “epic” celebration.
“What an EPIC wedding weekend last week,” Passero wrote while sharing several photographs of the event, apparently held in the Niagara Falls area.
The priest stated that it had been “one of the most special and amazing celebrations” he had attended and thanked, on behalf of his family, those who came to support the couple.
Passero also explained that he had served as master of ceremonies during the reception.
“I’m still euphoric from the weekend,” he said, before expressing his wish to receive new photographs, videos, and aerial images of the celebration.

A public act contrary to Catholic doctrine
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered,” “contrary to the natural law,” and that “under no circumstances can they be approved.”
At the same time, the Church asks that persons with homosexual tendencies be welcomed “with respect, compassion, and sensitivity” and reminds them that they are called, like all Christians according to their state of life, to chastity.
The priest’s actions were not limited to a discreet family presence. Passero publicly praised the ceremony, thanked those who attended to support it, and took on a prominent role during the reception, thereby offering public support to a union that the Church does not recognize as marriage and that contradicts its teaching on sexuality and the family.
