Reading from the Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 2, 1-9
My son, if you listen to my words
and do not forget my counsel;
if you pay attention to wisdom
and heed prudence;
if you call upon understanding
and give heed to good sense;
if you seek all this as you seek money
and search for it like a treasure,
then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord
and attain knowledge of God.
For the Lord is the one who gives wisdom
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He stores up success for the just
and is a shield for those of blameless conduct;
he protects those who fulfill their duty
and watches over the good man on his way.
Keeping this in mind, you will understand what is just and right,
and all things that are fitting and good.
Gospel
Reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew
Matthew 19, 27-29
At that time, Peter spoke up and said to Jesus: “Lord, we have left everything and followed you; what will we receive in return?” Jesus said to them: “Truly I tell you, in the new life, when the Son of Man sits on his throne of glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
And everyone who has left house, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or wife or children, or property for my sake, will receive a hundred times more and inherit eternal life.”
