The Diocese of Arlington, in the state of Virginia (United States), will have, starting July 1, a new pastoral structure for the faithful connected to the traditional liturgy. Bishop Michael F. Burbidge has announced the creation of the Our Lady of Victory Chaplaincy, which will be served by priests of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP).
The new chaplaincy is established to meet the spiritual needs of the faithful who participate in the Holy Mass and receive the sacraments according to the extraordinary form of the Roman rite, thereby consolidating stable pastoral care for this community within the diocese.
To launch the chaplaincy, Bishop Burbidge has appointed Father Jonathan Romanoski, FSSP, and Father John Audino, FSSP, who will assume pastoral care of the faithful.
A significant decision in the current context
The announcement is particularly relevant at a time when many communities linked to the traditional liturgy have experienced changes following the publication of the motu proprio Traditionis Custodes in 2021.
In this context, the creation of the Our Lady of Victory Chaplaincy represents an explicit endorsement by the Diocese of Arlington of the pastoral care of these faithful and entrusts this mission to one of the priestly institutes most closely connected to the Church’s liturgical tradition.
