The auxiliary bishop of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), Mons. Rob Mutsaerts, has been injured in a serious traffic accident while returning home after hearing confessions, according to Remnant Newspaper.
The prelate suffered a hip dislocation, pelvic fracture, and an elbow fracture as a result of the accident. Various media and faithful have begun to request prayers for his prompt recovery, especially the recitation of the Rosary.
Update: According to LifeSiteNews, close sources have subsequently confirmed that he is no longer in the ICU and is conscious and responding favorably.
One of the bishops most critical of the LGBT agenda in the Church
In recent years, Mons. Mutsaerts has become one of the firmest episcopal voices in Europe against the progressive drift in various ecclesial sectors, particularly in issues related to gender ideology and the LGBT agenda.
The Dutch bishop participated in 2025 in the Catholic Identity Conference (CIC), held in the United States, where he intervened alongside Bishop Athanasius Schneider and other prelates in a public act of reparation for the controversial LGBT pilgrimage organized in August of that year inside St. Peter’s Basilica.
That gesture, broadcast internationally via streaming, sought to express spiritual reparation for an event that numerous Catholics considered incompatible with the Church’s traditional doctrine on sexual morality.
An uncomfortable figure for ecclesial progressivism
Mutsaerts has repeatedly stood out for his public interventions in defense of traditional Catholic doctrine, criticizing both the secularization of Europe and certain trends present within the Church itself.
His positions have made him a figure especially appreciated in traditional Catholic circles, but also the object of criticism from progressive ecclesial sectors.
After the accident became known, numerous faithful, priests, and Catholic media have disseminated messages of support and requests for prayer for the recovery of the Dutch bishop.
