The imminent departure of Zornoza from the diocese of Cadiz

According to sources close to InfoVaticana, the Holy See will accept tomorrow the resignation of Mons. Rafael Zornoza Boy, Bishop of Cádiz and Ceuta, whose canonical departure is considered imminent after having already exceeded the age of 75 and submitting his resignation in accordance with canon 401 §1. Additionally, he faces an investigation process regarding alleged abuses committed in the 1990s, when he was carrying out training tasks at the Getafe seminary.

Notable Absence in the Plenary Assembly

The imminent news coincides with another striking fact: Zornoza was not present this week at the 128th Plenary Assembly of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

When consulted on the matter at the final press conference, the General Secretary of the CEE, Mons. César García Magán, explained that the absence of the Bishop of Cádiz and Ceuta was due to a delicate health problem, without offering further details.

An Imminent Episcopal Replacement

The appointment of the apostolic administrator—or of the new titular bishop—will be carried out immediately after the acceptance of the resignation, following the usual practice of the Holy See.

The Diocese of Cádiz and Ceuta would thus be officially in sede vacante after fourteen years of episcopal ministry by Mons. Zornoza, marked by profound economic reforms, parish restructurings, and decisions that have generated both support and internal controversies.
