Diocese of Teotihuacán Calls for Its First March for Peace and Life

ACN. – The IV Episcopal Vicariate of the Diocese of Teotihuacán is preparing to hold its first March for Peace and Life, an event that seeks to unite the community in a spiritual and social call against violence and in favor of human dignity. Scheduled for Saturday, September 20, the march represents a milestone in the diocese's efforts to foster reconciliation and respect for life in a region marked by social challenges.

The event, organized by Father Arturo Vergara, episcopal vicar, in collaboration with the Academy of Catholic Leaders of Mexico and the National Front for the Family, invites participants to dress in white as a symbol of purity and peace. According to the invitation banner disseminated by the diocese, attendees should bring banners with messages of peace, photographs or testimonies for a collective «Canvas of Memory», as well as spiritual intentions to share publicly. This initiative not only promotes personal reflection but also seeks to generate a community impact through visible expressions of hope and solidarity.

The march will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Linear Park in front of Chedrahui, in the Héroes Bosques area (Avenida Ozumbilla), in Tecámac. From there, participants will proceed in procession to the Parish of the Lord of Mercy and Our Lady of the Rosary, in Héroes de Tecamac, Bosques Section. At 11:00 a.m., a prayer and a testimonial before the Blessed Sacrament will take place, a moment of spiritual introspection. The highlight will be at 12:00 p.m., with a Mass for peace presided over by Msgr. Guillermo Francisco Escobar, the first bishop of the diocese

Father Allan Crhistian Covarrubias Martiñón, spokesperson for the march, has been a key figure in promoting the event. In an interview granted to the Catholic News Agency (ACN), the priest highlights the importance of this mobilization as a response to the current problems of violence and social disintegration in the region. Although the specific details of the interview emphasize the call to community action, the event is framed within a Catholic tradition of peace marches that seek to inspire positive changes at the local level.

The organizers have facilitated registration through a QR code on the banner, and they also offer a PDF with more information for those who wish to prepare in advance. Broad participation from families, community leaders, and the faithful is expected, in a context where the Diocese of Teotihuacán, created in 2008 and located in the northeast of the State of Mexico, has intensified its pastoral efforts to address issues such as security and the family.

This first edition of the march could lay the groundwork for an annual movement, aligned with the calls of Pope Leo XIV to build a culture of peace. Those interested can obtain more details by scanning the QR codes or contacting the diocese directly. At a time when Mexico faces security challenges, initiatives like this remind us of the role of faith in building a more just and compassionate society.
