Devotion transcends borders and in this 521st Anniversary, there will be Masses in Argentina, Puerto Rico, United States, Mexico, Austria, Colombia, Italy, Germany, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Venezuela, Netherlands, and Switzerland, consolidating Isabel as a living presence in the Christian consciousness that continues to touch the hearts of the faithful around the world.
This year, the usual Mass for Isabel in Cuba did not take place, a fact that, according to the president of Enraizados, “makes us consider the persecution that this communist country exerts on the religious freedom and worship of the Church of Christ”. “We understand this absence -he added- as a reflection of the importance of keeping the devotion to the Queen alive in contexts where faith faces serious obstacles, and the need to continue promoting it where it is possible to do so freely.”
When asked, as on previous occasions at this time of year, Father José Luis Rubio Willen (Director of the Isabel the Catholic Commission) about the beatification of the Queen of Spain, the first thing he told us is that “Isabel is already a Servant of God, which means that no one can doubt that she is in the presence of God, she is a private intercessor between the divine and the human, she has prayer, she does not yet have an altar but that will come”.
Father Rubio Willen explains that, for this reason, the Masses celebrated on this 521st Anniversary in so many places around the world are not funerals, but Masses of thanksgiving and glory. “She already had her funeral Mass at the time”, emphasizing that the recognition of Isabel as a Servant of God implies that she is not remembered as deceased, but as “a holy person whose soul is already in the presence of God”. These Masses, he states, “are of thanksgiving and glory, because God has given us a Saint, even though she does not yet have an altar”. For the Director of the Isabel Commission, the extent of these celebrations is a sign that the universal Church “will have one more Saint with an altar in the future”.
The Enraizados Foundation has created an interactive map so that the faithful and devotees can easily locate the Masses closest to their home. This way, they can participate actively and join the wave of faith and admiration that continues to grow year after year for Isabel the Catholic.
With this growing participation, this Servant of God continues to demonstrate that her influence transcends more than five centuries, and that her historical, spiritual, and moral legacy continues to arouse admiration and devotion among the faithful around the world.
Enraizados reminds that its work is to serve as a communication channel to facilitate the faithful with a compilation and easy access to information, but that the civic entity is not behind the organization of the different Eucharistic celebrations. That task has been the initiative of each devotee of Isabel in the different localities where the Masses will be celebrated.
Likewise, the Enraizados Foundation invites all the faithful to join spiritually for the Beatification of Isabel the Catholic, for Spain and Hispanity, on November 26, such a significant date.
