The Pope’s Almoner, Cardinal Krajewski, is transferred to the Polish archdiocese of Lodz and in his position, the Spanish Augustinian Javier Marín de San Martín is appointed. The Pole was very close to Francis and the Spaniard is to Leo. The position is more for show than effective, but the archdiocese of Lodz doesn’t shine at all. And what he does as metropolitan archbishop, unless he insists on scandal, will have no media echo whatsoever. Some time ago, one of his stupidities was quite aired because he was the Pope’s almoner; if the Archbishop of Lodz had done that, no one would have commented on it. I think Marín de San Martín is much more prudent than Krajewski, just as Leo is than Francis. Will we see him as a cardinal in a more or less near consistory? Certainly, it is not descartable. I judge the change positively.

The Holy Father has appointed as Metropolitan Archbishop of Łódź (Poland) His Eminence Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, transferring him from the office of Almoner of His Holiness, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity.
Curriculum vitae
His Eminence Card. Konrad Krajewski was born in Łódź (Poland) on November 25, 1963. After entering the diocesan Seminary of Łódź in 1982, he obtained a degree in Theology from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.
He was ordained a priest on June 11, 1988.
He has held the following positions and pursued further studies: Parochial vicar in Rusiec and Łódź; Licentiate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of Saint Anselm in Rome; Doctorate in Theology, specializing in Liturgy, from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome; Collaborator in the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff; Chaplain of the Orthopedic and Traumatological Clinic of the La Sapienza University of Rome; Ceremoner of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Łódź; Lecturer at the Diocesan Seminary and that of the Franciscans and Salesians of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Łódź; Lecturer at the Academy of Warsaw; Prefect of the diocesan Seminary of Warsaw; Pontifical Ceremoner in the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff.
In 2013, he was appointed Almoner of His Holiness and Titular Archbishop of Benevento, receiving episcopal consecration on September 17 of the same year.
By Pope Francis, he was created and proclaimed Cardinal in the Consistory of June 28, 2018, of the Deaconry of Santa Maria Immacolata all’Esquilino. Since 2022, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity (Apostolic Almonry).
