Second installment of the contradictory pontificate of Omella by Oriol Trillas

Juan José Omella

Essential for a good understanding of the lamentable Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona.

John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of Barcelona in 1996 and transferred him to Barbastro-Monzón in 1999 and to Calahorra and La Calzada-Logroño in 2004, and it was Francis who in 2015 promoted him to Barcelona and in 2017 created him cardinal, giving as archbishop and as cardinal ample demonstrations of his incompetence.

Fortunately, he has only a few days left in office because in less than four months, on the next April 21, he will turn 80 years old. So any day now we might find ourselves in the immediate first months of 2026 with the joyful news of his replacement. The replacement will be a happy day although it might be overshadowed by the appointment of a successor. Seville and Valencia would be excellent although they would change two archdioceses without serious problems and in which they are very well regarded by a more than notable wasp nest. The one from Pamplona, which some talk about, if it was already incomprehensible for the Navarrese archdiocese, and is giving good proof of it, for Barcelona it would already be the grand finale. Between Omella and Roselló, I stick with Omella. And not because I think he is minimally good, which is not the case.
