«We have to admit it: thank goodness the Second Vatican Council arrived. Because until 1965, it seems, the Church wasn’t entirely clear whether God had become man, a bookshelf, or a minor constellation in the solar system. The Gospel was there, yes, but it needed a conciliar firmware update to become understandable.»
And then there are the ignorant ones insistent on not recognizing the Council’s most important declaration: Et homo factus est. Thank goodness Richi recognizes it. He really knows. Or maybe what he doesn’t know is Latin.
I have nothing against those insistent on praising the Council permanently whether it fits or not; I simply doubt their intellectual worth without realizing that attributing to the Council the creation of the world, Gothic cathedrals, Saint Teresa of Jesus, or the discovery of penicillin do the Council a very weak favor, since it also had nothing to do with Catholics holding for nineteen hundred years that Christ was true God and true man. Without the slightest doubt in their knowledge and exposition.
It seems that Richi in the photograph is bursting out laughing at his own blunder.
