Barcelona already has all the volunteers to receive León XIV; Madrid and the Canary Islands are missing.

The response from the faithful to the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain has reached a first milestone in Barcelona, where the quota of volunteers has already been completed for the events planned between June 9 and 11, 2025. Meanwhile, the organization keeps registrations open in Madrid and the Canary Islands, where collaborators are still needed, according to COPE.

Barcelona completes the volunteer team ahead of the visit

The organization of the trip has confirmed that in the Catalan city, no more volunteers are needed, after a response that has exceeded initial expectations. “No more hands are needed. Thank you very much to all who have offered their time,” they have stated from the official event website.

In addition to material collaboration, the organizers have insisted on the importance of accompanying the visit also through prayer, remembering that it is above all a spiritual event.

Madrid and the Canary Islands, key to the trip’s development

Unlike Barcelona, the organization continues to seek volunteers in Madrid and the Canary Islands, the other two stages of the apostolic journey.

Madrid, where Leo XIV will stay from June 6 to 9, will concentrate a good part of the Pontiff’s agenda and will require an important organizational deployment. For its part, the Canary Islands, the last stop of the trip between June 11 and 12, also require support to ensure the development of the planned events.

From the Church, it is emphasized that the involvement of the faithful is essential to ensure the smooth running of a visit that is expected to be massive.

Beyond volunteering: a diverse involvement

The organization has enabled various forms of collaboration. In addition to volunteering, the contribution of material resources and professional services in areas such as transportation, communication, health, or security is contemplated.

Likewise, the hosting of pilgrims in private homes has been promoted, a common practice in large ecclesial gatherings that strengthens the sense of community and hospitality among the faithful.
