Leo XIV will receive Mullally at the Vatican

The new ‘archbishop’ of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, will meet with Pope Leo XIV during her visit to Rome, scheduled from April 25 to 28, which will be one of her first institutional gestures following her recent assumption of leadership at the head of the Anglican Communion.

The official announcement came just two days after her installation in Canterbury Cathedral, thus marking the beginning of her ministry with an ecumenical meeting at the Holy See.

The Letter from Pope Leo XIV

In this context, Cardinal Koch, prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, delivered to Mullally a letter from Pope Leo XIV with words of congratulations and blessing at the beginning of her ministry at the head of the Anglican Communion.

According to the statement released by Lambeth Palace, the Anglican leader expressed her gratitude for the Pontiff’s gesture and assured her reciprocity in prayer.

“I am deeply grateful for your kind letter and for the assurance of your prayers on the occasion of my installation as Archbishop of Canterbury”

Commitment to Unity

In her response, Mullally emphasized her intention to work for unity among Christians, stating that her mission includes serving “as an instrument of communion within the Anglican Communion” and seeking “the full and visible unity to which the Lord calls us”.

Likewise, she expressed her willingness to continue strengthening ties with the Catholic Church and advancing a shared commitment.
