A Sevillian nun among the new venerables: the Pope recognizes the heroic virtues of Mother Belén

Pope Leo XIV has authorized the promulgation of new decrees from the Dicastery for the Causes of the Saints, among which stands out the recognition of the heroic virtues of the Servant of God María de Belén del Corazón de Jesús Romero Algarín, a Sevillian religious known as Mother Belén.

A life marked by dedication

Mother Belén was born in Seville in 1916 into a Christian family.

After a youth marked by personal difficulties—including the early loss of her parents—she entered the congregation of the Slaves of the Divine Heart at the age of 21, where she developed her religious and apostolic vocation.

She renounced a family life project to follow the religious call, professing in 1940 and dedicating her life to the service of the Church.

Commitment to the most needy

During her religious life, Mother Belén stood out for her dedication to the most disadvantaged, especially in humble environments both in Spain and in missions abroad.

Her apostolic work was marked by closeness, charity, and an intense spiritual life, traits that, according to those who knew her, left a deep mark on the communities where she worked.

Recognition of heroic virtues

The decree approved by the Pope recognizes that Mother Belén lived the Christian virtues in a heroic degree in an exemplary manner, a necessary condition to advance on the path to beatification.

With this step, her cause continues its course awaiting the recognition of a miracle attributed to her intercession.
