Jaén hosts the Assembly of Communication Delegates of the Church in Spain

The Diocese of Jaén hosts from March 9 to 11 the Assembly of Diocesan Delegates for Social Communication Media, an event that brings together communication representatives from dioceses throughout Spain to address various aspects related to ecclesial communication.

A meeting of communication officials

According to COPE, the meeting is organized by the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications (CECS) and is held under the motto «Friends of Lolo, of truth and hope».

The assembly brings together communication delegates from various Spanish dioceses for three days to share experiences and reflect on some of the current challenges in the field of Church communication.

The meeting was inaugurated with greetings from the Bishop of Jaén, Sebastián Chico Martínez, and the president of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications, Bishop José Manuel Lorca Planes.

Lectures on communication and artificial intelligence

The first presentation in the program is by María Solano, professor at San Pablo CEU University, with a lecture that bears the same title as the motto of the meeting.

Among the topics to be addressed during the days is the use of artificial intelligence in the communication offices of the dioceses. This issue will be presented by Antonio Moreno, head of the Press Office of the Diocese of Málaga.

Visit to Linares and tribute to Blessed Manuel Lozano Garrido

Tuesday’s session includes a trip to Linares to visit the home of Blessed Manuel Lozano Garrido, known as Lolo, a Jaén journalist beatified in 2010.

The visit is carried out together with the Friends of Lolo Association, with the aim of remembering the figure of who is considered the first lay journalist raised to the altars.

A roundtable on how to communicate the Pope

During the meeting, a roundtable titled «How to Communicate the Pope Today» will also be held, in which María José Atienza, from the magazine Omnes; José Beltrán, from Vida Nueva; and Cristina Sánchez Aguilar, from the weekly Alfa y Omega will participate.

Cultural activities and closing

The program also includes some cultural activities. After the first day, the participants visited the Cathedral of the Assumption of Jaén. Subsequently, a visit to the city of Úbeda is planned to learn about some of its most representative places, such as the Chapel of the Savior or the Olive and Oil Interpretation Center.

The last day of the assembly will focus on issues related to image and video resources for diocesan media, as well as the presentation of the Church’s Annual Activities Report and the FOESSA Report, before the closing of the meeting.
