Reading from the book of Isaiah
Isaiah 55:10-11
Thus says the Lord:
“Just as rain and snow come down from heaven
and do not return there without first soaking the earth,
making it fertile and causing it to sprout,
so that it provides seed for the sower and bread for eating,
so shall the word that goes forth from my mouth be:
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish my will and fulfill its purpose”.
Gospel
Reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew
Matthew 6:7-15
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: “When you pray, do not babble like the pagans, who imagine that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not imitate them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Therefore, pray like this:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
forgive us our offenses,
as we also forgive those who offend us;
lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your offenses”.
