The Diocese of Huelva was the host, from February 10 to 12, of the Spanish Vicars’ Days convened by the Episcopal Commission for Evangelization, Catechesis and Catechumenate of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, as reported by the diocese itself diócesis. The meeting brought together nearly a hundred vicars from various dioceses to reflect on integral accompaniment for priests.
Over three days, the participants addressed the current situation of the clergy and the need to strengthen human, spiritual, and pastoral care for presbyters, especially in a context marked by the decrease in the number of priests and the growing ministerial burden in many dioceses.
Close and Structured Accompaniment
The first day included a presentation on the reality of the clergy in Spanish dioceses, in which the importance of stable and organized accompaniment from the diocesan level was emphasized. Group work allowed sharing experiences and concrete proposals to strengthen attention to the presbytery.
The second day focused on personal accompaniment and the human dimension of the priest. The importance of listening, priestly fraternity, and the balanced integration of spiritual and pastoral life as essential elements to sustain the ministry was highlighted.
Attention to Difficult Situations
The Days concluded with a specific reflection on the accompaniment of priests going through particular difficulties, offering pastoral guidelines to address these situations with prudence and ecclesial responsibility.
Finally, the meeting was closed by emphasizing that the care of the clergy constitutes a pastoral priority in the dioceses, in order to sustain the Church’s evangelizing mission.
