First Reading
First reading
Isaiah 58:7-10
Thus says the Lord:
«Share your bread with the hungry,
open your house to the homeless poor,
clothe the naked
and do not turn your back on your own brother.
Then your light will break forth like the dawn
and your wounds will heal quickly;
justice will go before you
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
you will cry out, and he will say: ‘Here I am’.
If you remove the yoke from among you,
the pointing of the finger and the malicious word;
if you share your bread with the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
your light will rise in the darkness
and your gloom will be like midday».
Second reading
1 Corinthians 2:1-5
Brothers and sisters: When I came to you to proclaim the gospel, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom, but I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness and fear, and much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
Gospel
Matthew 5:13-16
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven».
