TRIBUNE: The collapse of the Church in Catalonia in one image

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the Dominican Xabier Gómez was ordained bishop of Sant Feliu, a suffragan diocese of Barcelona.

Look closely at the photograph, because it is a summary of the agonizing situation of the Church in Catalonia: the newly created bishop, with an immaculate retro-progre seventies uniform: ridiculous wooden staff (which looked more like a ladle), Tucum ring (for the sake of the “poor Church for the poor”), and immigrationist pectoral cross (made of wood from a cayuco turned into a false relic, as we commented here) to appear humble. To the left of the bishop in the image, the abbess of Montserrat, without a veil, next to another nun from her cenobio.

Regarding the nefarious bishops who occupy the cathedras of most dioceses, Fr. Charles Murr narrates in his fascinating book “Murder in the 33rd Degree” how the cardinal who chose bishops during the time of Paul VI was a Mason, and therefore only chose the worst of progressivism. And things have only gotten worse. John Paul II and Benedict XVI appointed nefarious bishops and then Francisco arrived, who seemed to have hibernated from 1970 until 2013, like Count Dracula rising from his sarcophagus four centuries after his apostasy, and operated following the same line. We only have to look at the coven of modernist bishops and cardinals appointed so far: it seems rather that he chooses the worst from each house.

After the conservative John Paul II and a pope who sought to open the post-conciliar Church to the great bimillennial tradition of the mystical body of Christ, as Benedict XVI did, Francisco was elected to the chair of Peter; an indescribable, vulgar character, who did not stop creating perplexity from his appearance on the Vatican loggia, ignoring and despising the tradition of the pontiffs before him. Forgetting any supernatural perspective to turn the Catholic Church into an NGO or a United Nations office, anthropocentric, and with two star themes: immigrationism (that is, the promotion of the Muslim invasion of Europe), and climate change, despising the militant Church whenever possible. Only from this pontificate can the election of the non-Catholic new bishop of Sant Feliu be understood.

Look at this Basque Dominican appointed to the see of Sant Feliu, Fr. Xabier Gómez. He is not a “Catalan bishop,” but he is Basque, “from the peripheries” of the peninsula; nationalist, to boot, making it clear from his first addresses to reassure the national-progressive flock. Progressive to the hilt, as the press archive shows, and specialized in one of the favorite themes of the late pontiff: the cause of promoting an open-doors policy toward the Muslim invasion that aims at population replacement in Europe. Apparently, it was Cobo, cardinal of Madrid, who pulled strings to promote this friend of his, with whom he worked on the migration commission of the Spanish Episcopal Conference: Gómez was director of the Department for Migrations of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

In these few months that he has been in office, he has already starred in some of the most ridiculous episcopal actions remembered in the Church of Catalonia: we will highlight here briefly only two of the most notorious: his pastoral letter on Lamine Yamal and his open letter to the singer Rosalía after the release of her album Lux.

Let’s look at the first one: the Sunday sheet of May 11, 2025, with his Sunday gloss titled “Lamine Yamal”: in the gloss, Bishop Xabier talks about the athlete’s sporting qualities, but above all he focuses on the character as a model of integration. Yamal was born in Esplugues de Llobregat, a town belonging to the diocese of Sant Feliu, and we imagine that this gave rise to this gloss. We all know that Lamine’s father is a textbook Moroccan immigrant and his mother is from Equatorial Guinea, and that he, born here, was therefore schooled here, so it is normal that he speaks perfect Spanish and Catalan. From there to celebrating him as a model of integration in Catalonia, as an excuse to praise multiculturalism, is already ideological juggling.

Because Lamine is a young man of precocious promiscuity, involved since before his majority with various women older than him, which is an anti-example of morality. On the other hand, he is of the Muslim religion, and keeps the Islamic precepts. In the Spanish national team, he was the first player to alter the plans of a «Roja» training camp due to the observance of Ramadan.

This theme fits into Gómez’s obsession with uncontrolled immigrationism and his outrageous gratitude to immigrants who come to Spain to fill our moribund parishes. We do not know, however, what statistics he bases himself on, since there are the immigrants he so celebrates, who only approach churches to hoard the food and clothing distributed by Caritas, or a large part of the Ibero-American population, which belongs to Protestant, evangelical sects. But he continues with his own, without faltering, with his outdated slogans of listening, lay commissions; and, yes, contrasting his humility and synodality with his absolute protagonism in the diocese’s social communication. Nothing new under the sun.

On the other hand, we have the open letter to the singer Rosalía after the recent release of her album Lux and her apparent conversion to the Catholic faith, which the entire hierarchy and neoconservative groups in the Church applauded with their ears (we addressed the issue here). Once again, Gómez’s excuse for writing to Rosalía was that the artist was born in a town belonging to his diocese. The ridiculousness of the missive is undisguisable. This portal reported on it. It is very good that the bishop seeks to approach people who are far from the faith or are going through a process of conversion; but they must do all this without forgetting their flock, without mistreating it, without starving it to death. And without celebrating that a culture opposed to ours comes to bring insecurity to our streets and receives privileges from both the State and the Church solely because of their place of origin, in a flagrant comparative grievance against the local population.

In fact, during Lent 2025, the Basilica of the Conception in Barcelona organized a cycle of Lenten lectures preached by bishops of Catalan dioceses. Among them, of course, today’s protagonist. And what did he talk about? Here are some brief pearls from his harangue: Bishop Xabier considers that «we are called to a wonderful work, to work so that the house of God is increasingly welcoming, so that everyone can enter and stay, so that the Church has its doors open to everyone and no one is tempted to dedicate themselves only to looking and changing the locks (…). From where will we contribute to a new style of life? By forming welcoming communities, of recognition and compassion.

Look at the monothematic line of the news on his diocesan website, from which we have extracted this information.

In a Catholic logic, all this, besides making no sense, is painful. But if one realizes that they are subjects who do not operate according to the Catholic faith, then everything is coherent (though equally painful). The blogger Wanderer explained it perfectly: the bishops have another faith. This, however, is nothing new; as the priest Gabriel Calvo Zarraute affirms, Francisco was not the cause, but the consequence of a process, a dynamic of centuries; which began with the Protestant heresy (itself with its own antecedents), and of which both Vatican II and Francisco are logical consequences, with the infiltration of modernism up to the highest ecclesiastical hierarchy. In the case of the Church in Catalonia, out of a total of ten dioceses, we have three very lamentable bishops (Sant Feliu, Lérida, and Tarragona) and an ambitious careerist already outdated with a closet full of bodies in Barcelona.

The consolation and hope we have is knowing that the gates of hell will not prevail. And that in a couple of generations the death due to lack of replacement of this anthropocentric and woke neo-church can be certified.
