The Archdiocese of Madrid has published an official note to clarify the information that, in recent days, has circulated about the eventual visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain. From Infovaticana, we limit ourselves to reflecting the issue as a rumor, based on information disseminated by La Iberia and attributed to Pablo Mariñoso, without presenting it as confirmed or as our own news. Notwithstanding the above, we can advance that within the framework of the Convivium, it was conveyed to those present that the visit will coincide with the date of Corpus Christi, which falls on Sunday, June 7; the rest of the details that have circulated have been presented as unconfirmed information.
Official Statement from the Archdiocese of Madrid:
The Archdiocese of Madrid wishes to state that it shares the excitement and hope aroused by the eventual visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. However, in light of the information that has circulated in recent days in various spheres, the Archdiocese considers it necessary to clarify that such information does not correspond to reality.
The dissemination of unconfirmed data is erroneous and hinders, in addition to interfering with, the serious and discreet work required for planning a possible visit by the Holy Father and the necessary dialogue between the various agents.
At the present moment, this information generates confusion, when the process is still in an initial phase. It will be in the coming days that a working group will meet to begin developing proposals of a diocesan nature.
It remains pending, likewise, that the Holy See will outline, in due course, the possible dates and events, which, as may happen, could be modified depending on the appropriate needs that are considered.
On the part of the Archdiocese, the work focuses on the orderly organization of its own proposals and those that may arise from dialogue with the various local entities, so that, subsequently, the Holy See, the Episcopal Conference, and the dioceses involved can evaluate, adjust, and specify the necessary aspects.
The Archdiocese of Madrid emphasizes the importance of not introducing issues unrelated to the organization process that may interfere with the proper development and eventual realization of a visit by the Holy Father.
