The ideologization of Christian symbols no longer knows bounds. When it seemed that the manipulation of nativity scenes had reached its peak between the German performance, the manger scenes with political messages in the United States, and the «faceless» ones in Brussels, now it’s the turn of the Three Wise Men, turned into an object of ideological reinterpretation under the woke umbrella.
According to La Veu Lliure, various Christian groups in Andorra have expressed their discomfort over an image recently shared by the organization Diversand on social media, which depicts a reinterpreted version of the Three Wise Men with LGBT symbolism.
The image—which shows Melchor as a «cisgender woman,» Gaspar as a man carrying rainbow flags, and Balthazar with a feminine appearance—has generated indignation among the faithful, who consider it a trivialization of a central religious symbol of Christianity during a particularly significant liturgical time like Christmas.
The sources consulted by La Veu Lliure emphasize that the criticism is not directed at the LGBT collective itself, but at what they describe as a gratuitous provocation and a lack of respect toward Christian tradition. «If they ask for respect, the first thing to do is to respect,» some of the groups of faithful who have raised their voices in Andorra have declared.
This is not a cultural misunderstanding nor an innocent expression of creativity. It is, plain and simple, a blasphemy. And, as so many times, it arrives wrapped in the sweetened language of «diversity» to hide what it really is: a deliberate provocation against Christian symbols.
It is striking—although already habitual—that this type of «reinterpretations» always fall on Christian symbols. Never on other faiths. Never on other religious references. The selective mockery reveals that we are not facing a random artistic expression, but a tolerated and promoted cultural hostility.
