The Pope has appointed coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Criciúma (Brazil) Msgr. Milton Zonta, S.D.S., a religious of the Society of the Divine Savior (Salvatorians) and until now superior general of the congregation, as reported by the Bulletin of the Holy See.
Msgr. Zonta was born on June 2, 1960 in Videira, diocese of Caçador, in the state of Santa Catarina. He studied Philosophy at the Universidade Salesiana de Lorena and Theology at the Instituto Teológico São Paulo (ITESP).
He completed his formation with studies in Youth Pastoral Ministry in Porto Alegre and in Latin American Pastoral Planning at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.
He made his religious profession in 1986 and was ordained a priest on January 17, 1987. He has served as parish vicar, vocations promoter and missionary, as well as provincial superior and general councilor.
Between 2012 and 2024 he was superior general of the Salvatorians, with residence in Rome. He was currently exercising parish ministry in Videira.
As coadjutor bishop, he will collaborate in the pastoral governance of the diocese of Criciúma and is called to succeed the diocesan bishop when the vacancy occurs.
