The Virgen del Puerto Hospital in Plasencia (Cáceres) has been the scene of a grave sacrilege: the theft of several consecrated hosts from its chapel, as confirmed by sources from the Diocese and the National Police.
The events occurred last Wednesday, without any signs of forced entry or suspicious movements being detected. The Diocese has filed a complaint and an investigation has been opened for a minor theft offense. Although the economic value of the stolen hosts is irrelevant, the spiritual damage caused is profound, as it involves the Most Holy Sacrament.
The hospital’s chapel, which has a notable spiritual life and is frequented by patients and families, has continued its activity normally. According to El Mundo, the Bishop of Plasencia, Mons. Ernesto Brotóns, presided over the Eucharist in the oratory last Sunday, with new consecrated hosts after the unfortunate event, although it was not revealed whether a proper act of reparation or atonement was performed.
The Church dictates that it is necessary to perform a public act of reparation in these cases, both to honor Christ truly present and to strengthen the faith of the faithful. Prayers of atonement, Eucharistic adoration, and a Mass with reparative intention.
