Adrian Pabst is appointed ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Professor Adrian Pabst, a British academic of German origin and one of the most recognized specialists in political philosophy and social economy within the European university sphere, as an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

A Scholar with an International Career

Pabst was born in Munich (Germany) on November 2, 1976. His education is exceptionally broad: he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge (1998), studies in European Studies at the London School of Economics (1999), a degree in Political Thought at Sciences Po (2000), and another bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris (2002).

Subsequently, he earned a PhD in Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion from the University of Cambridge (2006). His academic career has primarily developed at the University of Kent, where he teaches Political Theory and Political Economy.

He is the author of numerous books and specialized articles and has participated as an editor in various collective publications on political philosophy, public ethics, and the foundations of social order.

Link with the Holy See

Since 2014, Pabst has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation, an institution linked to the dissemination and deepening of the Church’s social doctrine. In 2016, he took on the role of secretary of that committee.

With this appointment, the Holy See incorporates a scholar who has shown interest in Catholic social thought and in articulating a political model based on the common good, solidarity, and human dignity.
