Mons. Pioppo arrives in Spain and is received by the top leadership of the CEE

According to information from the Office of Information of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), the Nuncio of His Holiness, Mons. Piero Pioppo, landed this afternoon at Barajas Airport, where he was received by the top officials of the Spanish episcopate.

The welcoming committee included the president of the CEE, Mons. Luis Argüello; the vice president, Cardinal José Cobo; and the general secretary, Mons. Francisco César García Magán.

An expected arrival and a symbolic agenda from the first day

Pioppo’s appointment as Apostolic Nuncio in Spain and Andorra was confirmed by the Holy See on September 15, 2025. According to the agenda announced days earlier, the arrival scheduled for this December 5 includes a reduced reception at the Apostolic Nunciature headquarters and on December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the nuncio will preside over his first Mass in Spain at the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel, the traditional headquarters of the Nunciature in the capital.
