According to LifeSite, the elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, has made the axis of his future administration a battery of measures aimed at promoting the LGBT agenda in the city. His central plan includes $65 million for “public providers” that perform sex change procedures, along with legal actions against institutions that decide to suspend these services.
Additionally, Mamdani announced the creation of an Office of LGBTQI+ Affairs, a job insertion program for trans people funded with three million dollars, and an initiative from the City University of New York to offer scholarships aimed at increasing trans presence in education, social work, and health.
These measures are part of the political project of the new mayor, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and one of the most radicalized profiles in the Democratic Party on gender identity, police reform, migration, and social policies.
A former trans rabbi in Mamdani's team
To execute his agenda from the first day, Mamdani has gathered more than 400 people in 17 transition teams in charge of recruiting staff and designing public policies aligned with his ideological program.
“These committees will ensure that we fulfill our promises from January 1”, assured the elected mayor.
Among the selected names stands out “Abby” Stein, a man who identifies as a woman, born in the bosom of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community and who in 2015 declared himself simultaneously “transgender” and atheist. His appointment has drawn attention both for his biography and for his activism in gender ideology.
Stein published in 2019 his memoirs Becoming Eve: My Journey from Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi to Transgender Woman, where he narrates his departure from ultra-Orthodox Judaism. Since then he has become a media figure, frequently presented as a “transgender rabbi”, despite declaring himself openly atheist.
An extreme bet even for the Democratic Party
Mamdani's movement contrasts with the recent strategy of some Democrats who are trying to moderate their discourse after the wear and tear caused by the LGBT agenda in the 2024 elections. In front of them, the elected mayor advances without nuances: he presents himself as an aggressive defender of gender ideology and seeks to consolidate the most radical flank of the party.
According to Life Site, the model will be closely watched by Democrats at the national level, who will have to determine if this extreme turn can become a reference or if it deepens the gap with the moderate electorate.
